To streamline the process of preparing models for VU.CITY using Blender, the VU.CITY Plugin offers a simplified toolbar. This plugin provides various one-click workflows designed to assist Blender beginners in optimising their models.

Key features

  • Merge multiple meshes
    Combine multiple objects into a single mesh to simplify the model structure, ensure compatibility with VU.CITY tools and improve performance.

  • Flip
    Convert models between Y-up and Z-up orientations.

  • Rescale
    Adjust the model’s scale to match the required dimensions, either by reducing or enlarging the overall size.

  • Zero and geolocate
    Set the model’s origin to a specific point and input geographical coordinates to position the model accurately within the VU.CITY platform.

  • Correct visual issues
    Address common visual issues such as smooth shading problems and identify flipped faces that may affect the model’s appearance.

  • Triangulate N-gons and quads
    Convert complex polygons, including N-gons and quads, into triangles to ensure better compatibility and rendering in VU.CITY.

Installation instructions

To install the VU.CITY Blender Plugin:

1. Save the VUCITY Plugin.py file on your computer.

2. Open Blender and navigate to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Install.

3. Select the VUCITY Plugin.py file.

4. Enable the plugin by ticking the box next to its name.

5. In the 3D scene, press ‘N’ to display the VU.CITY Plugin on the right-hand side of the viewport.

  • How does it work

SketchUp and VU.CITY Create

SketchUp and VU.CITY Create export FBX files in ASCII format, which Blender cannot import directly. To use these files in Blender, convert them from ASCII to Binary using an Autodesk converter.
