Launch a project in 3D

Last updated: 23 December 2025 16:29 BST

Starting and managing your 3D projects in VU.CITY is designed to be straightforward, whether you're setting up a new project or continuing an existing one. Here's how you can navigate the process.

Creating your project

Before you can launch the 3D application, you must first create a project. Navigate to the main dashboard in VU.CITY and click on the “Create New Project” or “+” button. Enter the necessary details such as project name, description, and location to establish your new workspace.

Accessing the 3D

Once your project is set up, you can start the 3D application by clicking the “Launch 3D App” button located on the project overview page. Alternatively, right-click on any VU file in your project drive and select "Launch in Application" to open specific project files directly. This will jump you back to the project overview page, but will preselect the VU file for launch.

Choosing your working environment: Cloud or Desktop

Typically, the 3D application will open in the VU.CITY Cloud by default, allowing you to get started immediately without any setup delays.

Upon launching the application, you'll be given the option to switch to the Desktop version if it suits your needs better. This option is particularly useful if you prefer the capabilities or offline access provided by the Desktop version.

Switching environments

Temporary switch

If you choose to switch environments during a session, this change will only apply for that instance. It allows you to adapt to specific requirements without altering your default settings.

Permanent switch

Should you find yourself regularly preferring one environment over the other, you can set your default preference under the 'VU.CITY Desktop' section in your profile settings.

Optimising your experience

System requirements

Ensure your system specifications meet the requirements, especially if you opt for the Desktop version. This ensures that your projects run smoothly without any performance issues.

Cloud advantages

The Cloud version is ideal if your hardware doesn't meet the high demands of complex 3D models, offering a powerful yet less resource-intensive alternative.

Understanding these steps will help you manage your 3D projects effectively in VU.CITY, ensuring you have the right tools and environment to match your workflow needs.
