Scenes properties
Last updated: 28 July 2026 11:08 BSTA scene captures the full visual and environmental state of a project at a point in time. Date, time, atmospheric conditions, and building visibility are all stored per scene, making it possible to set up distinct configurations and return to them without reconfiguring from scratch. Settings can also be applied across multiple scenes simultaneously when needed.
Scenes work alongside viewpoints, which are managed independently and can be used to preview any scene. Settings can also be applied across multiple scenes simultaneously when needed.
Scene settings panel
Scene properties panel has three tabs: Settings, Styles, and Details. Settings covers the environmental and visibility controls described below. Styles is covered in the canvas styling article. Details holds the scene's metadata.
Date and time
The date and time field sets the point in time the scene represents. The value drives sun position, shadow direction, and any time-sensitive environmental behaviour.
Developments
The Developments section controls which building states are visible in the scene. Consented, Construction, and Completed are each toggled on or off independently, allowing any combination to be shown or hidden.
Legend key turns on a panel at the bottom of the screen displaying the colour code for each active building state. The panel includes a menu for hiding it or enabling Grayscale, which renders the development buildings in neutral grey rather than their status colours, useful for isolating a proposal from its surroundings.
Context
The Context section controls environmental and scene elements: Trees, Leaves, Shadows, Animation, and High detail buildings. Each is toggled on or off independently.
Weather
The Weather selector sets the general atmospheric conditions for the scene using a set of preset icons, ranging from clear to overcast to rain.
Atmospherics
The Atmospherics section provides three sliders for fine atmospheric adjustment: Fog, Scattering, and Sky Colour Intensity. Each runs from 0% to 100% and adjusts independently.
- The Scene switcher replaces the previous visibility states functionality in the camera.
- Previously, visibility states could store camera position, date and time, weather, atmospheric settings, shadows, and tree and leaf visibility. Now, scenes themselves retain these settings as part of the scene, rather than as separate saved visibility states.
- Switching between scenes updates the scene to match the saved settings, while keeping the camera position unchanged.
