Creating viewpoints
Last updated: 28 July 2026 11:08 BSTA viewpoint captures a fixed camera position and orientation, together with its target. Once saved, a viewpoint can be reopened to return the camera to that exact framing. Viewpoints function as a storytelling and communication tool, supporting consistent reference points across reviews and presentations.
Viewpoints and scenes are independent entities and are managed in separate tabs within the left panel. Scenes define context and visual state. Viewpoints define position, orientation, and target. The two systems are not linked, so changes to a scene do not alter saved viewpoints.
Creating viewpoints
Creating a viewpoint involves setting a target, saving the camera position, and naming the viewpoint clearly. Viewpoints can be added to collections, and collections can be organised to suit a project or workflow.
Targets
Targets represent points in space. Each viewpoint can be locked to its target, which keeps the camera oriented toward that point. Target lock supports smooth, controlled camera movement when navigating between or within viewpoints.
Viewpoint locking and navigation
Locked viewpoints constrain camera navigation to preserve a defined framing. Target lock keeps the camera oriented toward a fixed point, supporting cinematic movement. Opening a viewpoint returns the camera to its saved position; editing a viewpoint updates its stored position, orientation, or target.
