Basic camera control
Last updated: 24 June 2026 18:53 BSTThe Basic tab presents a viewpoint's essential settings: its position and orientation, lock behaviour, and optional image overlay and crop. A set of lens and sensor defaults is applied behind the scenes. The mini map at the top of the panel shows where the viewpoint sits and which way it faces.
Mini map
The mini map at the top of the panel shows the viewpoint's location, with an arrow for its position and rotation and a cone reflecting the field of view.
Lock to target
Lock to target keeps a viewpoint oriented toward a fixed point in space. A viewpoint placed without a target has it set to off by default, and turning it on gives the viewpoint a target to hold.
Move with topography
Move with topography keeps the viewpoint at a constant height above the ground as it moves across the scene. It is active by default, and adjusting the viewpoint's height sets the distance the camera then maintains.
Position and orientation
Easting, Northing, AOD, Bearing, Pitch, and Field of View define where the viewpoint sits and how it is oriented. These values update as the viewpoint is moved in the scene and can also be set manually.
Image overlay
Image overlay places one or more reference images over the viewpoint, useful for comparison against a photograph or rendering. Overlays appear within the viewpoint itself, and each can be shown, hidden, or removed independently.
Crop
Crop frames the viewpoint to a chosen aspect ratio using a preset or a custom value. The crop margin appears within the viewpoint and can be adjusted directly, with an option to lock the ratio while doing so.
Basic camera defaults
The Basic tab applies a fixed set of lens and sensor values that are not shown in the panel. Switching from the Advanced tab back to the Basic tab reverts the lens and sensor information to these defaults, regardless of the values set in Advanced mode. The defaults are:
- Lens: 21mm
- Field of View: 60°
- Sensor size: 16:9 DSLR
- Aperture field: maximum / wide open
- Focus: infinite
