Canvas styling

Last updated: 16 June 2026 17:48 BST

Canvas styling allows users to customise the visual appearance of a scene. Adjustments include base and tree styles, saturation and exposure, and visual effects such as edge lines, water colour, sketch, blueprint, and cartoon. Changes are applied in real time, giving immediate feedback in the 3D view, and the last-used settings are retained when reopening a file.

Adjusting base and tree styles

Base and tree styles define the foundational look of a scene. Base styles include white, flat, and textured, while tree styles include white, simple, and detailed. adjusting these styles updates the 3D view instantly.

Saturation and exposure

Saturation and exposure sliders allow fine-tuning of scene brightness and colour intensity. Both sliders are synced with the data legend where applicable, so adjustments in either location are reflected across the scene. This affects canvas only, so data layers, customer models, etc. are not impacted by these sliders.

Applying effects

Various effects can be applied to change the visual style of the scene. Available effects include edge lines, water colour, sketch01, sketch02, blueprint, and cartoon. The Edge lines effect provides additional controls for outline colour, intensity, and thickness, allowing detailed customisation.

How to apply styles

To change canvas styling:

  1. Open the scene manager and select a scene.
  2. Click design options in the scene list to open the properties panel.
  3. Switch to the styles tab to view all available options.
  4. Adjust base and tree styles, sliders for saturation and exposure, and click effects to apply them. Settings update in real time.
Differences and similarities with the existing VU.CITY App
  • Style settings were previously found under Tools / Style / Edge lines in the main menu.
  • Earlier options included line colour and background colour only.
  • Styling is now centralised under design options with additional effects and synced slider behaviour.
