Viewpoint Pilot is a first-person navigation mode available within Viewpoints. For an overview of Viewpoints and how they are created and managed, see Viewpoints.
Viewpoint Pilot enables first-person navigation within a VU.CITY Viewpoint using keyboard controls. It supports two modes: Free Cam and Walk Mode, switched via the Walk Mode toggle in the Viewpoint settings panel.
Free Cam allows unrestricted 3D movement through the environment.
Walk Mode constrains movement to ground level, keeping the camera at a fixed 1.6 m height and enabling terrain-following navigation similar to pedestrian movement.
Both modes share the same core controls, with differences in vertical movement, collision, and how direction is interpreted relative to the camera or ground plane.
Pilot Controls
The following hotkeys control movement, rotation, and view adjustment within Viewpoint Pilot.
W – move forward in the direction the camera is facing
S – move backwards away from the direction the camera is facing
A – move left while keeping the same viewing direction
D – move right while keeping the same viewing direction
Movement in Walk Mode follows the ground surface, so direction is adjusted to stay level with the terrain. In Free Cam, movement follows the direction the camera is pointing in full 3D space.
Left / Right arrow keys – turn the camera left or right
Up / Down arrow keys – look up or down
Looking up or down changes what is in view but does not affect movement direction in Walk Mode. In Free Cam, looking up or down also affects the direction of movement.
E – Move up
Q – Move down
These controls are only available in Free Cam. They have no effect in Walk Mode.
[ – reduce movement speed
] – increase movement speed
These controls adjust how quickly the camera moves. They can be used for both slow, precise adjustments or faster movement across larger areas.
, (comma) – reduce how quickly the camera turns
. (full stop) – increase how quickly the camera turns
These controls adjust how sensitive the camera is when turning or looking around.
= – zoom in (narrower field of view)
- – zoom out (wider field of view)
Zoom changes how much of the environment is visible without moving the camera position.
