AOD visualisation

Last updated: 20 October 2026 17:44 BST

The AOD tool provides a visual representation of height across a scene, allowing users to analyse elevation data with precision. It is designed to support assessments such as building heights, topography, and sightlines. The visualisation is applied directly to the scene and responds dynamically as values are entered.

Height thresholds and layers

Users can set maximum and minimum height values by entering values in metres for top, base, or both. The offset between these values is calculated automatically and displayed for reference. The model is overlaid with coloured layers to highlight the selected height range, providing clear visual feedback on areas within the thresholds.

Visibility and interaction

The AOD visualisation is only visible when the tool is active. It sits at the top of the visibility hierarchy, appearing above all other layers and data overlays.

The AOD overlay does not interact with scene-wide visual settings such as saturation, contrast, or canvas styling. Adjustments made in scene properties affect only the base model and other data layers, leaving the AOD visualisation independent.

Differences and similarities with the legacy 3D app
  • Point measurement option has shifted to the draw tool
  • Direct entry of top, base, and offset values in metres for precise control, no more sliders
  • Scoped visibility, showing only when the tool is active and appearing above all other data layers
  • Independence from scene styling adjustments, such as saturation or contrast
